Birds’ Island

Famous Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela has quietly left his handiwork, fashion house Maison Martin Margiela.
But before his complete retire he designed all-white Suite for the Les Sorces de Caudalie hotel / spa, which is in France.
He called his creation Ile aux Oiseaux (Birds’ Island). A special package includes “a gift signed by Maison Martin Margiela”.
The suite’s design is iconic of Margiela, working a burnished white and gray palette, contrasting simple, modern silhouettes with deconstructed archaic looks of Haussmanian walls. White calfskin rugs litter the floor and pillows are stitched to walls to form a large, mural-sized headboard; and a mirrored, reflective coffee table reminiscent of Robert Morris’ Untitled installation of mirrored cubes. While the space is generally white with a disconcerting sense of fabrication (bathroom tiles are photo-printed pebbles) to be slightly ghostly, pops of color injects an interesting wave of energy into the space, in form of a pop-arty flaming red hot lips sofa.
