Mao Restaurant, Moscow

Author’s pan-Asian cuisine restaurant Mao was opened in former caramel factory “Red October”. It is said that soon the entire territory of the plant will become a trendy cultural and entertainment center, consisting mainly of galleries, clubs and restaurants, with a walking pedestrian zone and a large comfortable parking.

At the moment territory is domesticated only by the most daring and desperate. Restaurateur Tatyana Berkovich (“Semiramis,” “Gostinaya”, “30/7”) is among them…

Mao is a contemporary loft with lots of large windows, excellent bellevue on  the Moscow River, luxurious roof designed for spacious summer terrace, and quite harmonious interior with an open kitchen behind glass, gray couches with bright colored pillows, a black boarded floor, glass lanterns and a fair amount of Chinese antiquities, which Mrs. Berkovich personally bought in China, she also brought with her hand made clay pottery and two giant painted vases.

Do I have to say that the entire interior is created by her as well? And the menu too, it is author’s!

It is unimaginable how this whole project in the middle of the ghostly ruins of the factory should become a fairy palace. I think that sooner or later it will happen, because “the courage…”, as the old Russian proverb says, “…conquers the cities, not the only plants and factories”… =)
