Born in Riga Philippe Halsman is considered to be one of the greatest photographs ever. He made Marlyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, J. Robert Oppenheimer “the father of the atomic bomb”, royal couple jumping in front of his camera! In this moment masks are falling down! The collection of the portraits was published in his Jump book in 1959 which immediately became classics.
Halsman made the most famous portraits of Albert Einstein, Salvador Dali and himself he is considered as the forefather of surrealistic art in photography.
Halsman’s pictures of the most famous people of that time appeared on the cover of Life magazine. Those politicians, celebrities, scientists you can see at the exhibition „101 covers of the Life magazine”, organized by the association foto.lv, the U.S. Embassy and Riga City Council.
